AI in PR: Your Creative Sidekick, Not the Star of The Show

AI is at the forefront of what seems like everything today. It’s writing emails, brainstorming captions, even developing strategies. And yes, it’s impressive, having a tool that can help you write your blog draft or analyze data in seconds. It’s a total game changer. But here’s the thing, the magic of what we do in PR? That part is still 100% human.

Now, I’m not saying AI doesn’t have great qualities to it. You’re in need of a breakthrough to your writer’s block? AI’s got your back. You need to research a niche topic on a tight deadline? Say less. But if we end up willingly handing over the wheel completely, we’re losing the heart of what makes our work so special: authenticity and a personal touch.

So, without losing our brains to ChatGPT on the daily, here are a few sweet spots I’ve discovered while toying around with it myself:

  • Make it the Sidekick, Not the Hero: Let your AI tool outline ideas, find SEO keywords, or help spark your creativity. It’s like having a brainstorming partner that never runs out of ideas.

  • Keep the Story Human: Your audience can spot a robotic message from a mile away. It simply doesn’t capture the unique voice and personality that make every client’s story special. Whether it’s a heartfelt caption or a press release, your personable touch is what makes it stick.

  • Double check everything: AI is a great time saver, but it doesn’t always get the nuances of what you are trying to convey. Make sure to always bring your expertise to the final product. Don’t forget to trust yourself more than you’re trusting your AI.

The reality is, brands thrive on connection, and connection is something AI simply can’t master. Most people want three things– to feel seen, heard and understood, and no bot can do that like you and I can. Let’s embrace AI for what it is, an amazing tool for cutting down on the grunt work, to bounce ideas off of, and staying on top of trends. But when it comes to crafting something truly memorable and forging a bond with an audience? That’s all us.
